This course will be an introduction to the art of creating comics. Each class we cover a new topic and for those continuing students we take a deeper dive into the topic that the student can apply to their comic. Students are encouraged to bring forward their own characters, voices and stories while we hone our craft. We work traditionally and our goal is to create a finished small comic/zine of their work by the end of the section. We will also engage in collaborative comic exercises, games to get to know each other, and learning that making comics doesn’t have to be too difficult..
Students are encouraged to bring in their own favorite drawing materials. Basic materials are provided in class.
Character design and character writing
Environments and world building
Perspective drawing and using different POV and camera angles
Thumbnailing, storyboarding, and panel layout
Coloring comics: explore techniques using traditional media, watercolor, markers, color pencils.
We will utilize the new skills of storyboarding, penciling, inking, and coloring to make your own amazing comic.
